Autumn Hiking Day in Macedonia
With the promise of a sunny day and no other plans or obligations, it’s an easy decision to go hiking.
It’s been too long! Let’s explore a new destination, Nezhilovo, stretch our legs and enjoy the colors of
autumn, now they are still here.
10:15
After the city of Veles, we exit the highway. From now on, we see only villages, scenic roads, dried-out
vineyards and a shepherd with a herd of sheep. When we pass the old village of Sogle, I feel a bit sad,
knowing that a good photographer could do magic here, walking around all day, snapping master pieces,
while I won’t come very far with my point-and-shoot camera. I decide to leave the old babi and dedovci
to their daily business and focus only on capturing nature today.

11:30
We park the car at Nezhilovo, put our new camel bags on and start walking, simply enjoying all the colors.

14:15
After two hours of easy hiking on an dirt road slowly angling upwards, a sign directs us straight into
the forest. From now on, we are following a much steeper narrow path. After scrambling over fallen trees
and loosing our direction twice, we finally arrive at the source of the river Babuna, where the water is
so clear we are sure it is drinkable.

Unfortunately, we can’t stay long. We want to get back to civilization before it gets dark. On the way back,
we enjoy the colorful trees on the mountain across the valley once more. You’ve got to love autumn!
